Wallowa Lake

Kokanee · 20-100 ft · Best: June - August

The intel

Glacial Oregon lake, kokanee-only kokanee water. Steep walls, kokanee suspend over 80+ ft. Glow patterns crucial in low-light morning bite.

Depth + bite windows

  • First light (4:30 - 6:00 AM): Surface push to 15-25 ft. Glow finishes peak. Smaller spoons (3.5") at 1.0-1.2 mph behind a UV dodger.
  • Morning (6:00 - 10:00 AM): Slide to 25-45 ft as thermocline settles. Larger spoons (4.0") as the bite extends.
  • Midday (10:00 - 2:00 PM): Fish hold thermocline. Natural smolt colors over glow. Slow troll (0.9-1.1 mph).
  • Evening (5:00 - 8:30 PM): Second bite window. Push back up to 20-35 ft. Glow re-charges with low ambient.
